Abstract

The exhibition Things Vibrant – Things Dignified examines the importance and potentials of archival materials and documentation in art museums and offers a model for using those potentials. Set as a kind of omnibus in thirteen separate episodes, the exhibition deals with the subject-object relationship and the concept of objectivity within the artistic practices of the twentieth century. Non-art objects that arrived at the Museum of Contemporary Art through donations and legacies were treated as testimonies and research material for clarifying this relationship, as well as meeting the artist in the roles of archivist and collector, at the same time a creator of their own universe and flâneur in physical and spiritual realms. The exhibition highlights avant-garde movements as paradigm shifters in art, introducing new approaches in which art and life are equated. One of the ways to bring life into art is to include utilitarian non-art everyday objects in a work of art.
