Abstract

The collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Republic of Srpska has been enlarged with the collection of works by Željko Opačak, an artist from Banja Luka who donated to this institution his extensive work created during the 1980s in 2021. The article discusses the aspects of museological processing, selection and presentation of the donated material within a private collection, as well as its meaning and significance in the field of research of the artistic scene in Banja Luka of that period. The analysis of Opačak’s opus pointed to the consideration of the authentic position of an author active in a local environment in relation to the current artistic trends on the Yugoslav, as well as on the international scene, most often denoted by the term of new image.
