Keywords:
environment, installation, exhibiting, cabinet of curiosities, collage, collection, surrealismAbstract
The article analyzes the content, ideas and genre of Marko Ristić’s Surrealist Wall that has not yet been the subject of a thorough art-historical interpretation. Since Ristić’s installation was inspired by Breton’s “surrealist wall“ which he saw during a visit to Breton’s studio in 1926, in the text a comparative analysis of these two “collecting“ projects through a prism of surrealist aesthetics, politics of exhibition display and self-representation will be executed. The conclusion is that the Surrealist Wall represents a unique work within the framework of visual production of Belgrade surrealists and Yugoslav art of 20th century.
