SERBIAN ARCHITECTURE IN 1926 – BETWEEN CONTINUITY AND REFORM

The availability of diverse sources, as well as all the more exsisting historiographical study of interwar epoch, provides the basis for the appereance of critical observations on Serbian architecture in 1926, developed within the Kingdom of Serbian, Croats and Slovenians. In phenomenological sense, it can be analyzed through the prism of its internal flash of insight expressed in the initiatives and reactions key actors (designers, purchasers, consumers, chroniclers and critics), and based on today’s interest in understanding the past through narrow historiographical platforms from a distance problematize various aspects of the former building. Primary staring at the distant medieval origins, as well as the closer Liberation epoch, Serbian architectural culture in 1926 in parallel continued its europeanization, creating the basis for a inevitable modernization reform. Ambitious and inspired, it was celebrated by authors of middle and younger generation – Dragisa Brašovan, Momir Korunović, Aleksandar Djordjevic, Milan Zloković, Branislav Kojic, brothers Krstic and Aleksandar Vasic, which succed to prolong the civilizational effectiveness of all directions.
